Khepri - The Archaeologists Mini-Multi Tool

​Purpose of Project: The purpose of this project is to give a simple multi-tool a new identity through packaging and copywriting. This multi tool will provide an easily accessible, space saving set of basic tools perfect for those on-the-go. Khepri is designed to feature the shape and size of the multi tool. The packaging itself will include a vacuum-formed plastic shell to hold the tool while also making it visible to the consumer.    

Target Audience:

This product is designed for history lovers, specifically those in the professions of archeology or Egyptology. If I had to define a more specific demographic, I would target Archeology majors in college aged 20-30, swinging male. My secondary target being established archeologists aged 50-60 looking for a replacement “pocket knife-esque” tool.

Format:

The packaging design for this product will take into account the length of the multi-tool when spread open through a vertical design. The plastic will also provide a sturdy material for the package to hang from when displayed. The design will emulate ancient Egyptian art through the type choice, color palette, and the imagery, while making sure to keep it modern. I want to utilize illustration to ornament the packaging and work in tandem with the typography.

More Info About Concept:

Khepri is a god in the ancient Egyptian religion. Khepri was principally depicted as a scarab beetle, though in some tomb paintings and funerary papyri he is represented as a human male with a scarab as a head. The Egyptian scarab consequently became a representation of Khepri, the God of the Rising Sun and eternal life.

Khepri is derived from Egyptian language, a verb meaning "develop", "come into being", or "create". The god was connected with the scarab beetle, because the scarab rolls balls of dung across the ground, an act that the Egyptians saw as a symbol of the forces that move the sun across the sky.
